It turns out I was right.
I am not a blogger.
I may give it a whirl another time.

First of Many (Hopefully)
I had my first art show on Friday!
The preparation for the show was relatively short considering I only had a few weeks notice. I spent at least a week fretting over what photographs to show, asking for help from anyone who would sit still long enough to look. I am, apparently, the worst judge of my own work.
I had very little ready to show so I went on a framing, matting and printing spree. When all was said and done, I ended up with 20 matted and framed prints. I went in the week prior to check out the space, measure walls and stake my claim to a wall or two (five in my case). The day before the show, my sister and I went in to hang them all. No disasters, no broken glass, no ripped prints and they fit quite nicely in the space. This is the final layout.
All was going quite well other than my nerves. I was sure someone would point and laugh and tell me to give up the camera. Maybe tell me they thought I was awful. Or ugly. Or rotund. You know, things people do at art shows all the time.
Day of the show, I pulled a million things out of my closet to try on and realized I really need to branch out from the black. After a little self-induced anxiety, I got dressed and headed to Boulder. My sister and I arrived early to get postcards and business cards set up near my space as well as setting out enough food to feed an army. I think it is a Midwest thing, no one leaves hungry.
The other artists were there setting up, all of them wonderful painters and really nice guys. I was happy to get to share my very first show with such great people. The DJ, Mr. Anonymous, arrived and set up. He is amazing, look him up. Music always puts me at ease so I was thankful he was there.
Needless to say, people arrived, everyone was completely wonderful and all the feedback I got was lovely. Not a single person told me I was an ogre. No one pointed and laughed. Not a single tear shed. I really enjoyed it and got to meet some very interesting people. It will stay up for a month so I am hoping people send me some email and maybe, just maybe want to purchase something. A girl can dream, right?
So there it is, my first art show tale.
My cherry has been popped.
I am ready for more.
